Advancing Grid Resilience Through Energy Storage in New York
The AEG New York Grid Modernization & Energy Storage Task Force is focused on accelerating the adoption of distributed energy resources (DERs) and energy storage solutions to enhance grid resilience and support New York's decarbonization goals. The Task Force has engaged stakeholders across utilities, government agencies, and the private sector to identify key barriers and opportunities in the deployment of energy storage technologies. Achievements include the development of pilot projects and case studies that demonstrate the value of energy storage in various applications, as well as the facilitation of knowledge-sharing sessions to disseminate best practices. Looking ahead, the Task Force aims to expand its outreach efforts, engage additional stakeholders, and advocate for policy frameworks that support the scalable integration of energy storage into the grid.
Charting a Hydrogen Pathway for New York Transit
The MTA Hydrogen Task Force is focused on advancing hydrogen fuel cell technology to help decarbonize New York’s transit system—particularly for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles that are difficult to electrify. In partnership with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the Task Force is developing a comprehensive hydrogen roadmap that addresses challenges around fueling infrastructure, regulatory clarity, and operational feasibility. A key milestone was presenting initial findings and strategy concepts at the 2025 NYC Fleet Show on May 15, where they engaged stakeholders on the role hydrogen could play in New York’s clean transportation future. The Task Force is currently working to define its next 90-day sprint, with the goal of potentially identifying concrete pilot opportunities and advancing planning for hydrogen deployment.
Accelerating Zero-Emission Fleet Adoption Across the Northeast
The NECTS24 Regional Fleet Electrification Task Force is committed to making the transition to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) more accessible and financially viable for medium- and heavy-duty (M/HD) fleet owners. By fostering collaborative communities tailored to specific fleet types—from last-mile delivery to public transit—the Task Force connects fleet operators with industry experts, peer use cases, and state-level resources. Its mission is to demystify ZEV technology, support regulatory compliance, and help fleets reduce operating costs while gaining a competitive edge. Success is measured by the number of ZEVs deployed across the region, fueling both sustainability and market momentum.
Tailoring Fleet Electrification for NYC’s Diverse Transportation Needs
The NECTS24 Citywide Task Force is addressing the critical obstacle of understanding the distinct needs of different fleet types in New York City’s transition to clean transportation. Their mission is to develop a set of electrification use cases—including last-mile delivery, transit, tech services, and taxi fleets—that characterize each fleet’s unique charging needs, geographic considerations, equity impacts, available energy resources, and applicable policies and incentives. Through cross-sector collaboration, the Task Force is gathering and analyzing real-world data to inform tailored deployment strategies. As part of their outreach, the Task Force presented their findings and ongoing work at the NYC Fleet Show on May 15, 2025, engaging with public and private stakeholders to further refine and scale fleet electrification solutions across the city.
Targeting Energy Equity and Climate Resilience in Underserved Communities
The NYC Health, Energy and Equity Task Force (NYCHEE24) is addressing the challenge of expanding equitable access to clean energy, energy assistance, and climate resilience resources in underserved communities—while supporting local green economy growth. Guided by a 90-day goal to “Just Do It,” the Task Force prioritized connecting with stakeholder groups that have already conducted needs assessment surveys and began identifying funding sources to address documented gaps. To date, the group has hosted two community roundtables - one in conjunction with Chase Community Center in the Bronx, and one with Fordham University - to ground their efforts in lived experience and cross-sector insights. As next steps, the Task Force is developing a summary of findings and pursuing funding opportunities to implement solutions that align with community needs and long-term resilience.
